Citation:
From what I have been told and gathered, Mini Mark's pollen is sterile
due to the chromosome size. So far, nothing has been published
of Mini Mark ever being the pollen parent of a hybrid cross.
Citation:
P. Mini Mark is a diploid. It is difficult to breed with because the parents are so geneticly different. Not a happy match of species. Hybrids of phals that are more closely related tend to make much more compatible crosses (as one would expect).
Citation:
Yes, Mini Mark is a diploid. A very confused diploid at that. Most of the problem lies with the parent Micro Nova (maculata x parishii). Actually it was made with lobbii not parishii but that doesnnn't change the problem. These two parents are from really different limbs of the Phal family tree.l Then you take Micro Nova and add P. philippinensis to it to Produce Mini Mark. So you have used three very divergent species (diploids) to make this little flower. It is a wonder that it breeds at all!!!!!
Alan Koch has the best idea, treat the primary cross that produces Mini Mark with colchicine and get tetraploids to breed on with.
